Incorporating food and agriculture into the K-12 curriculum

Last Friday I had the opportunity to speak to 60+ North Carolina educators about our global food system.  I was one of 20+ individuals invited to speak at the 2010 World View’s Partners’ Workshop organized by the University of North Carolina.  I want to thank Carina Brossy, Assistant Director for Curriculum for the opportunity.  I had a great time talking with K-12 teachers and encouraging them to incorporate food and agriculture into their curriculum.

I feel strongly that we are extremely disconnected from our food system and our children are going up with very little understanding and appreciation where our food comes from or how it is grown.  Agriculture can be easily woven into any course or discipline from pre-school to 12th grade and beyond.

For those who attended the talk I have provided a link to the presentation below (if you click on the “view in slideshare” link you will open the presentation in slideshare where you have the option to download the ppt file).  If you are interested in learning how to incorporate food and agriculture into your curriculum please let me know.
